Kenny Brabant is a true river rat, having lived his life in, on, and of the St. Lawrence River. In River bRat Kenny writes of his adventures growing up on Grindstone Island and in the village of Clayton, New York on the St. Lawrence River. Recognizing that the life and times he remembers so fondly are a thing of the past, he wants others to remember or glimpse through his stories, the unstructured fun of those days. Ken is currently working on a 2nd book, this time of his adult adventures. Being a kid at heart, his exploits and distinctive experiences continue through marriage, raising a family, and working as well as playing on the beautiful St. Lawrence River. Melody Bond Brabant grew up a "country girl", one of 12 siblings in a big, happy, hard-working family. Melody likes to say that growing up on a 90-acre property in the town of Clayton never brought her to the village, and she barely knew the St. Lawrence flowed past until meeting her future husband, Ken. Since then, river life has brought her a lot of adventures, among them (and in addition to some beautiful and peaceful early morning river commutes) have been intense trips across the channel from Grindstone Island to Clayton, through storm, fog, and a memorable mid-river breakdown in her small aluminum boat with a laker bearing down on her. Melody is retired and currently delights in creating a permaculture food forest on a 2-acre plot of land gifted by her parents. She enjoys writing poetry and short stories and being a partner in bringing her husband Ken's memories into written form in River bRat and beyond.
